The longer across answer can be seen as a certain series of keys. After filling the grid, the solver should shift the position of one such black key by one, and also shift the letter in the resulting position by one (without breaking the down clue). This should be done in such a way that the intersection of black keys and pink rings in the grid, when viewed via the shorter across answer, traces out a word telling the solver what they are.
