The Gunpowder Plot was a failed assassination attempt against King James V1 The plan was to blow up the House of Lords during the State opening of Parliament on 5 November 1605.The principal aim was to kill King James, but many other important targets would also be present at the State Opening, including the monarch's nearest relatives and members of the Privy Council.
