This puzzle has a ghost theme, but it's so obscure that I guessed (rightly) that no-one would spot it.  So the (apocryphal) subtitle offers a gentle hint.  (It's nothing to do with Star Trek).

In addition, I'll disclose that 1a, 8a, 10a, along with several others, are theme-words.
