The grid entries are not the answers to the clues, but all have the same property. Forty clues contain an extra letter in the wordplay. Read in clue order, these reveal a quotation that explains the nature of the puzzle. The author of the quote can be found in the two unclued grid entries. Grid entries for the remaining two clues have an additional property, a description of which can be found by examination of the letters of an irregularly spaced "acronym", consisting of eight of the first letters of the clues. Further instructions will be given when the grid is completed.
